Introduction to Music Therapy

Noel Anderson of Anderson Music Therapy

Have you ever noticed how children are naturally drawn to music, singing and dancing without reservation? Throughout my career as a board certified music therapist I have seen the evidence of music’s power to motivate children even through challenging experiences. I have seen individuals who have difficulty walking, stand up from a seated position and walk with a steady gait given the support of music and a skilled music therapist. I have witnessed music’s grounding effects that calm an individual who is beyond self-regulation and in a state of panic. I have seen these things and more because music is power!

Music therapy is an evidence-based allied healthcare profession that uses music and the therapeutic relationship to facilitate growth. In my work we typically address areas of need in motor skills, cognition (attention, self control, academics, etc.), emotions, social skills, and communication.

I am thrilled to provide this powerful service to the community FREE OF CHARGE thanks to the generosity and mission of 5 Points Music Foundation! Our first group sessions are for children ages 3 through 8. During the summer each group will be held for 4 weeks, meeting once a week for 45 minutes. Families are welcome to re-register after their group concludes, but please note new families will be given priority at this time.

Registration is free, however, there are very limited seats available for each group session. Visit https://5pointsmusic.com/programs/music-therapy-program/ to register! If you have any questions please contact me at Noel@amusictherapy.com
