9/18 Benefit Concert and 10/31 Funky Freekshow

BAND JAM: BENEFIT FOR 5 POINTS MUSIC AND RIVES THEATRE

Spearheaded by local musician/sound technician, Jake Dempsey, dozens of area musicians are coming together Wednesday, September 18 for BAND JAM: A Benefit for 5 Points Music Sanctuary and The Rives Theatre. Originally planned for 5 Points alone, the recent fire that has most likely destroyed the Rives Theatre building in Martinsville spurred the organizers to include this neighboring arts community during such a devastating loss.

There will be sets from Blue Mule, The Dead Reckoning, GOTE, and Elise & the Grease as well as sit-ins with Brittany Sparks and Tom Snediker, and a giant 5 Points Jam to close out the night.

5 Points Music Sanctuary has slowly and steadily emerged as one of the most popular venues on the East Coast with both audiences and musicians alike. 5 Points Music Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit holding concerts and hosting events to fund music therapy programs, hearing loss advocacy and resources for the deaf and hard of hearing. 5 Points Music Foundation seeks to chase those moments created by the power of sound through emotions and engagement of senses, through communication, unity and shared experience. It’s an establishment (and an idea) we all want to see flourish into the Raging Twenties. Please consider supporting The Sanctuary by attending this event and many others scheduled through the end of the year, donating to the foundation, and spreading the word about a great venue with an even greater mission.

Please note the early start time for this Wednesday night show – Doors at 5:00p, Show at 6:00p.

And now folks, if you’ll just step this way, you are about to witness the most amazing, the most astounding, living monstrosity of all time…

Virtuoso bass player FREEKBASS has been hailed by the legendary Bootsy Collins as The new spiritual warrior of the funk. Hailing from Cincinnati, FREEKBASS and his group, The Bump Assembly, are deeply rooted in funk, cultivated under the guidance of legendary funk masters like Bernie Worrell, George Porter Jr., Dumpstaphunk and Bootsy, just to name a few. Known for his energetic live show and ignited low-end, FREEKBASS brings danceable tunes with hints of Prince, David Bowie, Talking Heads and P-Funk. A staple on the festival and club touring circuit, his band consists of Rico Lewis on drums, a 13-year veteran of George Clintons Mothership, Sky White from Foxy Shazam on keys and the vocal duties are shared between funk queen Sammi Garrett from Turkuaz and the beautiful songstress Reilly Comisar. With a brand new album out in May 2019 under the Color Red label (Denver based New Mastersounds guitarist Eddie Roberts), the excitement for what is next is simply too much to contain. A FREEKBASS performance is for those who want to move, to groove, and to experience an event where the show and the music are one, creating a powerful visual and sonic experience that is not to be missed.
